Navigating a local French farmer’s market can be a daunting experience, especially in an area as traditional as the Perigord Noir!

Cue Ian Fisk, Chef and owner of Le Chèvrefeuille Restaurant and Cookery School right in the heart of the Périgord Noir. Ian offers guided tours of the local farmer’s market, every Tuesday from 9am to 11am, April to July and September to November.

This unique experience takes place in Le Bugue. The farmer’s market of this charming village has deep traditional roots and has been running since 1319, at which time the King of France made an order that Le Bugue market always be held on Tuesdays. This act is still in force, and every Tuesday sleepy little Le Bugue morphs into a bustling food lover’s delight.

Tour participants get to sample local produce, meet and participate in informative discussions with local farmers and learn how to choose the best seasonal ingredients with which to cook an array of French dishes.

Chef Ian teaches market etiquette, such as how to know whether or not to queue and how to ensure you’re being offered the best, freshest produce.

This is a very traditional, local market. Watch out for chariot wielding grands-mères, countless small dogs and oodles of gossip! This is a great way to immerse in a tradition that has been enjoyed by the people of Le Bugue for nearly 700 years.

Time: 9am to 11am
Days: Tuesdays
